Nick Cave “Soundsuits”
Exhibition Boxfolio + Catalog
Faust was hired to create not only a catalog that would accompany an exhibition of this client/artist's body of work entitled “Soundsuits,” but also to create a provocative art object. The client's vision was to draw a loose parallel between the found, collected and re-appropriated materials he selected for his work and an art catalog. The result was the “Boxfolio.” Together, we created a collection of artist-branded ephemera ordinarily thought to be mundane and/or disposable: an iron-on, a punching bag, a magnet, etc. The Boxfolio symbolized a challenge to the perception of what constitutes art and how it can be reproduced with the added analogy that both his work product and the Boxfolio, which was noisy when shaken, was inspired by sound. Faust collaborated with Nick to develop the concept and was responsible for design, production, and print and fabrication management relating to a custom box, an exhibition catalog, light wands, iron ons, magnets, playing cards, pens, and customized ViewMaster.
