McDonald's Corporation
2008 Worldwide Corporate Responsibility Report and Website

2008 represented a significant shift for McDonald's and the content of their fourth Worldwide Corporate Responsibility Report. Their report content was to shift from being provided in print to being provided online. The purpose was to give the company the ability to publish their full report while reducing their environmental impact, and also give the company the ability to post alongside the report other relevant content (video, news and blog) in real-time and get away from the impression that the company posts content to its site only once every two years. The company is diligent in its CR activity and needed a way of reporting on that activity as it happens. In addition, a web format allowed McDonald's to evolve away from case study content limited to sidebars typical of print reports, to firsthand vignette video content suitable for web. Faust designed the McDonald's CR site in a dashboard format with bold visual navigation that gave a quick, simple, and comprehensive overview of sections. Subtle additions of features like date stamping articulate that the site content is constantly updated. Further, McDonald's demonstrated it's commitment to reducing its environment impact by allowing users to build their own report. That is, encouraging users to print out only the sections in which they are interested. Faust provided concept, design, art direction, production, and print, programming, and video management relating to a comprehensive website and highlights booklet.
