Vocalo.org
Website
The brainchild of Chicago Public Radio, Vocalo represents the fusion of talk-radio and web-based community sharing. The name, inspired by the Spanish word for “town square,” speaks to the service concept: anybody—from the novice to the sophisticated—can submit content that can be shared among the community of users or tapped into for content by on-air hosts. For this reason, interaction with the identity and online interface had to be accessible and intuitive to a wide variety of users. Faust designed a logo that gives a clever nod to both the online and on-air aspects of the service employing the well-understood emoticon vernacular as an indicator of sound. The dual purpose of this emoticon is to act as a mouthpiece which would be given voice for uses such as advertising. Faust designed a simple interface for the website guided by the "use-by-all" principle. Faust provided concept, design, production, and print management, and web consultation relating to a website and comprehensive identity system.
