Aha (canvas series), 2024

Digitally printed canvas, grommets, paint, metal leaf
(6) 52” x 32”, (1) 52” x 32”
Collection of Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority

The Aha canvas series celebrates the convening of great minds and resulting inventions at the center of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. Canvas was chosen as a medium to convey the image of banners along the midway, while the designs themselves are created from the title’s letterforms (A, H and A). Upon close inspection you can identify the fair’s Ferris Wheel, a Beaux-Arts dome, entry ticket and Cracker Jack used as source photos for the background patterns. The metallic icon references inventions presented at the fair such as the Ferris Wheel, Cracker Jack and Zippers.
